Are you in the market to rent a house in Texas? Regardless of whether you are in one of the state’s metropolitan centers, such as Austin, Dallas, or Houston, or somewhere out in the country, finding the right house to rent can be a difficult and time consuming endeavor.
Particularly if you are new to the area, you surely have lots of questions. What is a reasonable price? What neighborhoods are a good fit for my budget and interests? How can I find the best deals? Even if you are a life-long Texan, though, these questions can still be a challenge to answer.
One of the best ways to begin finding answers is the website Craigslist.com. This site is kind of like the classifieds section in a newspaper, except on a much larger scale. It provides a place where people can buy and sell almost anything, from cars to furniture to electronics and everything in between. One of the most popular sections of Craigslist.com, though, is its property rental category, which provides a way for renters and property owners to connect without the need for a third party.
To access the Texas housing rentals section of Craigslist.com, visit the following web address: http://geo.craigslist.org/iso/us/tx and then click on the city or region closest to where you want to rent. On the next page, click on apts / housing under the Housing heading at the top center of your screen. You can now browse through all the housing rentals that property owners and managers have posted. The listings are organized by date, starting with todays new listings.
A great way to make searching craigslist.com even more effective is a free, web-based tool called Housing Maps. Accessible at http://www.housingmaps.com, it is a mash up of craigslist housing listings and Google Maps. It allows you to see where available properties are located, right down to the individual street address. This is particularly useful if you know the general area or neighborhood that you want to rent in, but not individual streets. Housing Maps gives you a visual presentation of your housing rental options.
